Today our special guest is LeeAnn Atkinson with Florida Pediatric Associates (FPA). Lee Ann is a Registered Nurse with pediatric ICU experience and is the office manager for the practice. Dr. Ben Guedes established the practice in 1987 which is thriving and caring for medically complex children in Central Florida. He developed the 24 hr pediatric emergency transport team at Florida Hospital, and is the medical director of many programs locally.
During our interview LeeAnn explains how FPA cares for and treats children that are considered medically complex and fragile and how they determine if a child is appropriate for their practice. She goes on to explain what a unique practice they have and how it sets them apart from other pediatric offices. FPA has 2 parts to their practice, one being office based and the other hospital based.
When I visited with LeeAnn and toured their office one of the first things I noticed was a warm and friendly environment not that stale, sterile feeling that you get from some other offices. It started the moment I walked in the door and continued until I left. The waiting area was kid friendly and colorful. The staff greeted you with a smile and made you feel comfortable. I have met several families that have shared their wonderful stories about FPA. How they cared for their child that was very ill while in the hospital, then continued the care in their office after being discharged and how indebted they are to Dr. Guedes and his staff for the exceptional care and treatment of their child.
